Power Delivery Data Analytics Manager
The Manager for the Power Delivery Data Analytics Team has responsibility for a team of engineers and analysts with expertise in Power Delivery (P.D.) business intelligence and analytics space. The successful candidate will work closely with the Power Delivery Connectivity & Innovation Manager, Central Engineering Manager, and the GridInform & Connectivity General manager to leverage data analytics solutions throughout Alabama Power Company Power Delivery, focusing on O&M elimination, reliability improvement, customer satisfaction, and resource allocation.
Specifically, this position will be responsible for providing leadership, development and mentoring for a diverse team of professionals, who use the Grid Inform data analytics platform, among other tools, to identify opportunities to proactively manage enterprise data and leverage data to make better, more informed business decisions. It is vital to engage and partner closely with PD and TO portfolio teams to generate insightful, relevant, actionable insights and visualizations supported by business data. Additionally, this position is responsible for effectively managing the budget and forecasting potential budget impacts to ensure that financial targets are met for the PD organization.
The Manager for Data Analytics Team also owns and grows relationships with strategic vendor partners to ensure that the organization continues to deliver on project commitments in addition to leveraging industry-leading expertise for solution delivery, consulting, and overall guidance for enterprise data initiatives at APC/PD. The Manager will also own the relationship with the SCS TO team to effectively relay top priorities from the PD team to ensure that TO resources and budgets are effectively managed in order to ensure that projects are delivered on time and on budget. Lastly, the Manager will be responsible for understanding and relaying PD’s data needs and priorities to our SCS TO team and strategic contractor partners to ensure that the PD data is properly categorized and prioritized for movement into Azure Cloud Database, accessible and available for use.

Experience working in a fast-paced, competitive organization, spanning various disciplines including applications, infrastructure, and business support roles

Experience with managing technology, product lifecycles and technology roadmaps

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or quantitative field such as applied mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, data science, or data analytics degree preferred

MBA or Masters in Data preferred

Power Delivery experience preferred

Comprehensive experience with implementing analytics solutions using one or more toolsets including (but not limited to) Microsoft and/or Oracle analytics solutions

Job Responsibilities
The outputs of data analytics efforts are key in guiding decisions which impact APC Power Delivery and Alabama Power Company as a whole. The demands for analytics are many; the manager will need to effectively balance demand with team capabilities. The required response time for some requests may be short. Some key activities include:

Measuring, reporting, and interpreting power reliability indexes
-
Supplying APC PD Central Engineering with projects which meet PD Strategic goals of reducing O&M, improving reliability, and implementing data-guided decision making

Providing ad-hoc reports and analyses to upper-level leadership in PD and APC
-
Providing budgeting and accounting with analyses for informed decision making and forecasting
-
Measuring, reporting, and interpreting workforce resource allocations and analyses
-
Assist the Connectivity & Innovation Manager in building and maintaining an organization that provides strategic technical leadership and subject matter expertise on data analytics best practices and standards

Establish, manage, and enhance the operational processes that enable quality and efficient BI/Analytic solution delivery including:
-
Maintaining a pipeline of work for the group with request tracking, prioritization, and assignment to team members
-
Process development between functions both internal to the group and partnering with other organizations
-
Continuous process improvement for data management initiatives and BI/analytics solution delivery
-
Attract, develop, and manage a highly effective, diverse workforce of technical employees highly skilled in multiple disciplines whose purpose is to design, develop, and successfully implement, on time and within budget, solutions that deliver business value and satisfy customers

Provide solutions that exceed business partner expectations for functionality, quality, cost, and timely delivery

Establish and maintain excellent working relationships/partnerships with IT and business organizations, as well as external strategic vendor partners

Seek opportunities to market the capabilities of the Data Analytics & Reporting group through informational sessions, planned meetings, technology demonstrations and formal presentations as needed

Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies; seek connections with other leaders within the electric utility industry responsible for data analytics in their organizations

Scope, develop, package and deliver new business intelligence and analytics solutions for multiple stakeholder organizations

Serve as a BI subject matter expert to properly assess BI needs for business unit users and map those needs to appropriate back-end solution architectures (i.e. OLTP/transactional databases, data marts, data warehouses, cubes, Hadoop, local data sources, dashboards, etc.)
