Overview

A Data Conversion Engineer/Analyst is a key member of the Planet DDS team and is responsible for building and maintaining the tools and platforms used by the Data Conversion and Implementation Teams for onboardings and integrations. In this role you will develop procedures for automating data feeds and data transformation process between external and internal data systems and among internal data sources and for automating data ingestion processes. This position requires strong data architecture, data mapping, logical, and physical modeling, and effective communication skills.

The Data Conversion Engineer will be able to multitask – coordinating assigned projects while able to manage multiple incoming requests during peak times. They will also have an inherent ability to be flexible in their everyday tasks and well organized with an engaging and professional bearing when interacting with our customers.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Initially be a key contributor on the team that will design, build and test a new cloud-based ETL/data ingestion environment that will take data from multiple legacy dental practice management sources, transform this data into a standard format and load into our enterprise platform.
• Develop and maintain stored procedures and views that are used by the Conversion and Implementation Teams
• Generate development of DTS/ETL packages
• Fully understand our existing data conversion processes and tools, and assist in completing conversion projects with the existing processes and tools
• Monitor data throughput and loads and maintain scaling requirements as necessary
• Perform integrity checks on data using both established and new procedures and tools, as well as creating new integrity check procedures as needed
• Participate in long-term systems architecture planning
• Stay abreast with new trends and technologies within the data management and transformation fields
• Contribute significantly to the planning, documentation, and execution of conversion projects
• Mentor and train other team members
• Assess and raise risks proactively
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• 8 or more years of experience working in highly technical roles
• 4+ years’ experience in database development and/or administration
• Advanced SQL programming skills
• 2 or more years of data mapping and transformation
• Experience with MS Azure, SSIS & MS SQL Server
• Significant experience with common ETL, ELT, ingestion and data management tools
• Significant experience troubleshooting data and connection issues
• Passion for details and consistency
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Excellent time management skills that allow you to handle simultaneous projects
• Ability to engage throughout the department and the company to achieve goals
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
• Willingness and capability to train and mentor less experienced team members

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant major or equivalent years of experience
• Any of the following would be a plus:
  • Dental industry knowledge
  • Experience with imaging standards such as DICOM
  • Experience using issue tracking systems, particularly Zendesk
