Chemical Engineer - Molecular Beverage Printer

As a Formulation Chemist, you'll be a key stakeholder in hands on development of the technology and lead the team that will own the translation of flavor formulations into scalable formulas, and you will have a direct impact on the success and the growth of the company. Working together makes us and our product better, and you'll work closely with the Engineering, Flavor Chemistry, and Sensory teams collaborating to improve the stability of our product. About the Role:


  • Act as a multifaceted expert and experimentalist - determining physical chemistry properties to support development of complex ingredient mixtures for use in the Cana molecular printer.
  • Collaborate across across the Science R&D team to translate research beverage and flavor formulations into scalable ingredients that are high performing and stable in the Cana cartridge system
  • Work with the Engineering to scale ingredients and formulations into the molecular printer for testing
  • Work with Manufacturing to provide guidance on ingredient and formulation specifications

Primary Responsibilities


  • Develop and operationalize testing a program for solubility, chemical stability, viscosity and other physical chemistry parameters to optimize formulations used within the Cana hardware device.
  • Support integration of chemical formulations into the Cana hardware device - collaborating with the engineering team on development of small-scale fluidics including the areas of material compatibility, chemical stability and physical chemical properties impacting flow or mixing.
  • Partner with the Engineering and Manufacturing team to scale ingredients and formulations onto manufacturing lines.
  • Identify and partner with contract or internal manufacturing for scale up of any novel ingredients in the Cana portfolio

About You


  • Ph.D, in Chemistry , Chemical Engineering or related field with at least 5-7 years of experience in formulation or process chemistry
  • Strong project management skills
  • Extensive experience with inventing complex liquid formulations consumer, industrial or pharmaceutical products
  • Experience with food and/or beverage ingredients
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and operationalize experimental programs to support core R&D in complex, cross functional chemistry projects.
  • Deep understanding of chemical stability, fluid flow, physical/chemical properties of fluids, material/chemical compatibility
  • Bonus points if you have experience with products that combine small scale fluidics (uL, mL) with electro/mechanical systems such as 3D printers, biomedical devices, or research devices used in biotechnology
