We are looking to hire an experienced heavy truck and equipment mechanic to inspect, service, and repair a range of heavy-duty refuse and mobile truck equipment. As a mechanic, you will be responsible for inspecting trucks and equipment, carrying out services and conducting repairs.

To ensure success as a heavy equipment mechanic, you should have proven experience working with heavy machinery, be physically fit, and be able to troubleshoot issues. Ultimately, a top-notch heavy equipment mechanic can repair and service even the biggest machinery with expert care. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Works under limited supervision and selects from written instructions and established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Performs repairs, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Estimates time and material costs on vehicle repairs and requisitions new parts.
  • Performs all work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles.
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Good communication skills relative to supervisor & other related departments.
  • Assists senior Mechanics in the completion of project work.
  • Reviews, completes or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards, and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Welding and fabricating experience is a plus.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, plus the physical ability to work in awkward positions such as kneeling, lying down, and overhead.
  • Must have the ability to climb and work from a ladder.
  • Ability to operate various shop tools (saws, drills, fork lifts, etc.)

Education and Experience

  • Experience: Two (2) years of relevant work experience.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Successfully complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and back ground check.
  • Must have own tools of the trade & transportation.
  • Requires a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent plus vocational training or job-related course work
  • Must be able to operate a fork lift

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour
