Sojourner House is looking for a Human Resources Generalist who wants to join a mission-driven organization and is eager to help our team members carry out our mission. The mission of Sojourner House is offering compassionate, faith-based recovery services to women and their children.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Human Resources Generalist will support the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including onboarding new staff, assisting with pay and benefit administration and monitoring company policies and practices. The HR coordinator will help managers with the recruitment of new hires, answer employee questions on a range of HR topics, and support the training needs of the organization.

The successful HR coordinator:
- Supports a positive work environment by responding to employee requests and questions and conducting employee surveys.
- Administers the applicant tracking system (ATS) and assists with recruitment and interview process. Meets with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Assists with the preparation of the performance review process and monitors completion.
- Conducts new hire orientation and manages completion of an effective onboarding process.
- Works with benefit partner to administer benefits plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
- Manages an effective onboarding process including background checks, employee eligibility verifications and ongoing maintenance of I-9 files.
- Escalates employee relations issues and investigation requests.
Skills you’ll need:
- Working knowledge of human resource principles, practices and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Able to manage time effectively with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Able to analyze information and effectively problem solve.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems including Paychex, and JazzHR.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of human resources experience.
- SHRM-CP or aPHR preferred
Licensure, Certifications and Clearances:
- Pennsylvania Act 33 Child Abuse clearance
- Pennsylvania Act 34 Criminal Record clearance
- Current American Heart Association CPR Health Care Provider Certification/First Aid, preferred (training to be provided, upon hire if needed.)
