About Our Job
The Denver Police Department (DPD), Identification Unit is seeking an Identification Unit Coordinator to work on a team that provides direct operational, technical and administrative support to Unit supervisors, law enforcement records technicians, patrol officers and detectives. The position mainly supports the ID, Records, Sex Offender Registration and Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) Units, but will also assist investigative units within the Denver Police Department and outside law enforcement and criminal justice agencies through fingerprinting, identification cards, registrations, background checks, and various applicant processing.

The ID Unit Coordinator is a great role for people who like serving the public, who have excellent customer service skills, can think critically through challenges to find solutions, can use various types of software, and can enter critical data quickly and efficiently.

The duties of this position entail fingerprinting and photographing subjects under arrest (while escorted by an officer), sex offenders, and customers seeking permits. Our successful candidate will need to be able to read reports that may contain disturbing criminal information and may need to photograph tattoos of subjects anywhere on their bodies.

This successful candidate will be working in a fast-paced environment, switching tasks frequently with frequent interruptions such as officers arriving at the counter for service, customers calling for information, and tasks that require urgent priority like fingerprinting witnesses and subjects.

Work Location: 1331 Cherokee Street - Police Administration Building (Downtown)
Work Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
Starting Pay: $24.00 an hour

Job responsibilities include:
  • Meets with customers, subjects under arrest, new employees, sex offenders, police officers and investigators in person throughout the day to provide customer service and support.
  • Fingerprints and photographs employees, witnesses, arrestees, permit applicants and sex offenders.
  • Uses a variety of software systems to research information, enter data, and correspond with various customer types.
  • Handles a large volume of electronic and paper data. This requires reviewing and interpreting complex data, scanning paperwork, and completing repetitive administrative tasks.
  • Works on a team to resolve interesting challenges, answer questions from the pubic and helps law enforcement employees achieve their mission and goals.
About You

Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Physics, or a directly related natural science.
Experience Requirement: One (1) year bench experience working in a laboratory.
Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

License/Certifications: It is a condition of employment that the Denver Police Forensics & Evidence Division form for consent for collection of a DNA sample be completed at the time of hire.
