Our Lady of the Valley is a nonprofit, nondenominational senior care community sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, located in Roanoke, VA. It is our mission to enhance the quality of life for each resident through personalized attention and exceptional senior services.

The Janitor is responsible for performing the duties necessary to ensure the cleanliness of all building halls, storage areas, vacant apartments, stairways and other public areas.

Specifically, the Janitor:

  • Dusts, mops, vacuums, empties trash, wipe tables and cleans glass doors daily. Cleans windows and blinds as needed. The carpet should be shampooed periodically, as needed.
  • Checks paper supplies, empties trash and cleans mirrors on a daily basis in the public restrooms. Cleaning and disinfecting should be done twice weekly along with the floors and fixtures or more frequently if needed.
  • Trash carts in all buildings are to be dumped daily. Carts are to be hosed and cleaned daily. Trash rooms are to be cleaned and disinfected twice weekly or more often if needed.
  • In the public areas, vacuums, dusts and sweeps stairway, halls, laundry rooms and lobbies every other day. Shampoos carpet as needed, approximately every one - three months. Cleans entrance glass daily. Dusts and damp cleans washers and dryers daily. Checks dryer lint traps daily. Empties laundry room trash daily. Building light fixtures should be dusted and emptied of insects, etc. once a month. The following should be cleaned as needed: all ashtrays, mailbox fronts, elevator doors, elevator tracks and all other doors. The Janitor is required to change light bulbs. Building damage, vandalism and other related incidents should be reported to the Manager/Administrator when discovered.
  • When an apartment turnover occurs, the apartment is to be thoroughly cleaned upon move-out. Carpets are to be shampooed for each new resident before his/her move-in.
  • The Janitor is responsible for using equipment and supplies in a prudent manner. He/she is responsible for informing the Supervisor when supplies need to be ordered. Equipment and supplies are to be stored in and transported on the cart that is provided.
  • Performs on-call responsibilities as assigned.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and to bend, crawl, stoop, push, and lift in order to deliver care and services as needed.
  • Practices safety procedures and complies with established reporting of accidents and injuries.
  • Performs other related duties that may be assigned.
