What is the position?
The Live-in Therapeutic Companion will work directly with clients in their home to cultivate ongoing individual engagement in the therapeutic process and implement appropriate activities or supports as identified by the care team. Live-in Therapeutic Companion will also communicate progress and observations to both OPG team members and non-OPG treatment providers.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As a Live-in Therapeutic Companion, you will be responsible for:
- Cultivating ongoing individual engagement in the therapeutic process and implementing appropriate activities or supports as identified by the care team. This could include social, recreational, vocational, or educational supports.
- Coordinating and helping to complete a comprehensive companion services plan addressing the client’s educational, vocational, recreational, and social needs.
- Crisis management for individuals in mental health and/or substance use recovery.
- Modeling healthy and therapeutic boundaries.
- Modeling healthy coping and daily living skills.
- Providing psychoeducation related to the client’s diagnoses and substance use if deemed appropriate.
- Assist on-site nursing staff with behavioral insights and supports as needed and appropriate.
- Observing the client’s behaviors (i.e., dietary, sleep, leisure, etc.) and communicating back to the case supervisor to adjust the care plan, as necessary.
- Facilitating efficient, courteous, and respectful communication between medical team and Director of Companion Services. Medical team may consist of on-site nurses, doctors, psychiatrists, etc.
- Collaborating with care team on short and long-term client goal plans; daily documentation of progress in case notes (submitted in a timely manner).
- Providing connections to community resources, treatment options, and/or peer counselors.
- Providing observed in-home drug testing and SoberLink monitoring (as appropriate).
- Emergency support and client transportation as needed.
- Additional duties will be assigned as deemed appropriate.
Experience & Abilities
Nice to haves:
- Experience working as a therapeutic companion, recovery coach, or mental health clinician;
- Experience working with high-net worth families;
- College degree;
- Professional licensure (i.e. LMSW, LMHC, LMFT).
Need to haves:
- Ability to calmly, flexibly, and efficiently manage client crises as they arise;
- Valid driver’s license with safe driving record;
- Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently;
- Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and behavioral health treatments;
- Comfort and quick learning curve with technology on day-to-day tasks (i.e. Microsoft Office, Salesforce);
