SCOPE AND DESCRIPTION
In this position reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer will perform a variety of engineering tasks to develop, test, implement and document manufacturing processes and methods. This position will work closely with the production and maintenance teams to evaluate capital needs, provide project justification and provide the engineering support necessary during the implementation process.
AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
- Works with team in designing production lines and processes by utilizing and applying LEAN principals and other industry leading best practices to meet efficiency and capacity goals.
- Leads continuous improvement projects that result in improved safety, quality, productivity, and efficiencies utilizing structured problem-solving techniques and other Six Sigma principals.
- Examines the manufacturing process for new automation opportunities and leads the implementation of approved projects. Supports existing factory automation, including software, controls, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Develops and maintains work instructions and other engineering documentation including (but not limited to) process flow diagrams, drawings, routings, and time studies, to define process steps, process flow, and other process requirements.
- Estimates manufacturing costs, process time and manpower requirements. Consolidates, documents, and presents results for review.
- Supports new product development (NPD) initiatives, including participation on NPD teams to develop new manufacturing capabilities and techniques in support of the NPD initiative. Includes conducting engineering trials and R&D when necessary, and preparation/delivery of data, reports, and analysis.
- Supports ongoing Quality Management and root cause investigation, including corrective actions. Supports ISO 9001:2015 QMS, audits, and re-certification.
- Leads or participates in SWOT analysis for improvements to product manufacturability, cost, quality, cycle time and capacity.
- Sources tooling quotes, providing documentation and ordering tooling with Buyer.
- Flexible and adaptable as work assignments/priorities may shift.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING/EXPERIENCES REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline with 3-5 yrs experience in a manufacturing environment or combination education and experience in lieu of degree.
- Proficiency in LEAN manufacturing principals and demonstrated experience designing and implementing production lines.
- Proven problem-solving ability and solution (improvement) implementation utilizing structured problem-solving techniques.
- Experience with developing and maintaining work instructions and other standard work in an ISO 9001:2015 manufacturing environment.
- Experience in project management including selecting, procuring, and installing capital equipment
- Well-developed analytical, problem solving, communication, and presentation skills.
- Effective organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to solve complex problems using creative thinking.
- Experience with Auto CAD, and Microsoft Office a plus.
- Commitment to organizational health and safety standards and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position will require time both in the office and on the production floor.
- Exposure to loud noises, heat, dust, and dirt.
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to sit, stand, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
