What you will be doing:

This position acts as a support to the Medicaid State Plan Coordinator (MPS 4) in the Department of Health Commissioner`s Office to develop, implement, and maintain the Medicaid state plan. Under the direction and guidance of the MPS 4, the position monitors state and federal legislative activities related to Medicaid and other medical assistance programs; interprets, researches, and makes recommendations on effects on the Medicaid program from legislation and/or regulation changes, and coordinates some aspects of new programs and/or policy changes for existing programs across divisions. The position reviews and provides bill analysis recommendations. The position acts as the backup legislative and stakeholder liaison for the MPS 4 and may act as the primary liaison to state agencies. The position assists with training development and presentation for state Medicaid staff on state plan structure, requirements, the amendment process, and tribal consultation. The position coordinates, participates, and monitors internal stakeholder workgroups and provides updates to the Commissioner’s Office. The position provides administrative and policy support for the Medical Care Advisory Committee (MCAC) and performs other duties related to cross-divisional Medicaid work under a designated lead.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located in the Anchorage Department of Health Commissioner's Office in the Frontier Building or in the Juneau Department of Health Commissioner's Office in the Alaska Office Building (AOB) and is currently eligible for a hybrid telework agreement. Telework arrangements (hybrid) are approved only when an individual has demonstrated they meet the documented standards for approval, and when such an agreement makes operational and functional sense for the department.

Progressively responsible professional experience such as supporting the administration of a Medicaid or Medicare program, health insurance service, health insurance management information system, health insurance finance or accounting program, Supplemental Security Income benefits or vocational rehabilitation program; auditing or monitoring medical or public assistance programs for fraud or quality assurance; processing medical claims using medical coding and medical billing knowledge; designing, developing, testing for quality assurance, and implementing an information system and/or training or education which includes such course work as business administration, computer sciences, economics, healthcare, legal studies, medical billing or coding, public health, public assistance, psychology.

“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction.
