The Alaska Department of Administration, Office of Information Technology is recruiting for a Microcomputer/Network Specialist 1 located in either Juneau or Ketchikan!
What you will be doing:
Provide endpoint, system, and network administration support services to State of Alaska employees with an emphasis on managed hosts & services of the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS), Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF), and the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Troubleshoot and resolve IT hardware and software issues and document and track resolutions through a ticketing system. Manage backup and restoration services, plan, design, and implement modifications for servers and services hosted by AMHS.

The OIT/Service Management section works as a team with Network Services (NS), Data Center, Policy, Strategy & Agency Services, and the State Security Office (SSO) to keep departments technologically operational and secure.
Service Management is vital to OIT in the following ways:
First line of triage and troubleshooting technical issues for departmental employees and contracted partners.
Testing of new hardware, software, and system solutions to work in conjunction with a large variety of supported software applications.
Assisting with overall hardware cost savings by performing a department-wide hardware refresh projects.
Developing and maintaining images along with custom software configured and packaged for specific divisions according to the work they perform.
Service Management is the face and voice of OIT, they are the first to be contacted when there is a technical issue, and are often the first to know about outages, and projects. The response from our group sets the tone for OIT’s response and success.

This position is being recruited as a dual-location recruitment and can be located in either the Marine Engineering Facility in Ketchikan or DOT&PF 3-Mile Headquarters Building in Juneau. The daily work is in a business office environment and often times aboard the AMHS vessels.

Special Note:
- Employment with the Office of Information Technology is contingent upon successfully completing and maintaining a background check and security clearance conducted by the Department of Public Safety. Fingerprinting is required.
- A valid driver's license is preferred.
- Occasional travel is expected as dictated by division needs.

Two years work experience in which the primary responsibility of the position was maintenance, control and administration of the employer's network(s). This is equivalent to Microcomputer/Network Technician 2 with the State of Alaska.
Substitution:
1. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a major in Computer networking, electrical engineering, data communication, computer science or a closely related field may substitute for the required work experience;
OR
2. Satisfactory completion of twelve (12) semester units of college coursework in computer networking or electrical engineering will substitute for one year of the required work experience on a one-semester credit equals one-month basis. Equivalent training in the fields of study listed above from a trade or technical school or the military, may similarly be substituted, where 12.5 hours in the classroom or 25 hours in a laboratory setting equals one semester hour.

Due to the nature of the work of the Office of Information Technology and access to APSIN at the workplace, the individual who is selected for this position will be required to pass a background investigation and may be re-fingerprinted. Convictions may lead to disqualification due to the requirements necessary to access these systems. Fingerprinting is required.
