What you will be doing:
As an Office Assistant 1, you will provide a full range of clerical and receptionist services, playing a vital role in the workflow of the office, which greatly contributes to our mission of protecting vulnerable Alaskans. You will perform a variety of tasks, including answering the phone, greeting guests, data entry, processing incoming & outgoing mail, ordering office supplies and maintaining our inventory, taking payments and general money handling, processing the daily check log, invoices, timesheets, and other various front desk duties.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is conveniently located at 4601 Business Park Blvd, Bldg. K, in mid-town Anchorage with access to restaurants, shopping, bike paths, and nearby Cuddy Family Midtown Park. Free parking is provided. The workweek is Monday-Friday in the office full time. This is not a telework position.
Who we are looking for:
A candidate will need the following experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful in this position:
  • Working knowledge of the proper use of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions, procedures, and guidelines, and apply them to varied situations.
  • Ability to answer telephones, greet visitors, direct them to appropriate program forms and information, respond to routine inquiries, and determine appropriate course of action relative to incoming messages, calls, or requests.
  • Ability to recognize obvious differences among data, facts, objects, or material.
  • Some knowledge of personal computer-based workstations and related business software suites in a business environment.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D.;

OR

Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college (this includes acceptance in a concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment program);

OR

A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in: Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information), Applied Math, and Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information).

Special Note:

ACT WorkKeys® skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Alaska Job Centers.

"Acceptance in full standing" means acceptance to a post-secondary program by a college or university and does not require enrollment or participation in the program. This includes acceptance in a program offering college credits while in high school, or both high school and college credits, but does not include taking advanced placement courses in high school.

Some positions in this class require the incumbent operate a State vehicle. Such positions require the selected candidate possess a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older on or before the first day of employment.

Additional Required Information
