PAINTER/DRYWALLER

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under specific direction performs painting work involving responsibilities for skilled tasks within the trade in the painting, decorating, and refinishing of building interiors and exteriors and other structures and equipment.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

1. Performs general painting, repair, construction, and remodeling work.

2. Prepares interior or exterior walls, such as but not limited to: washing walls, patching plaster, wire brushing, scraping, sanding, metal surfaces, and floors.

3. Hangs, tape and finish Drywall.

4. Erects ladders and scaffolding.

5. Applies sizing materials and mixes and matches paints.

6. Applies paint, shellac, varnish, enamel, stain, or other protectants to prepared surfaces using brushes, sprays, cloths, or other materials.

7. Removes soiled or excess paint.

8. Assists in building remodeling, and repair work.

9. Operates the forklift to unload trucks and transport material as necessary.

10. Assist in snow removal. Checks weather forecast and reports to work as established when it snows.

11. Performs all other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Abilities

-Requires high school diploma or equivalent education, with course work in shop, the trades, or a related field of study.

-Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Certified Powered Industrial Truck Certification as required by OSHA compliance 29CFR 1910.178.

-Requires basic computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word. Learn Micromain 2000 and use a PDA for work orders.

-Demonstrates working knowledge of occupational hazards, precautionary, and safety measures.
-Demonstrates ability to climb to OSHA compliance top of 12’ step ladder and work for extended time and climb and use an extension ladder safely.

-Requires knowledge of the tools, methods, and standard practices of the trade.
-Requires a valid Illinois drivers license.
-Requires the ability to blend paints.
-Requires the ability to read and interpret specifications through written and verbal descriptions, drawings, plans, and blueprints.
-Requires the ability to lift 75 lbs.
-Requires good verbal and written communication skills.
-Requires good interpersonal skills affording the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with fellow employees, and the general public.

Experience

-Requires three years of experience in building maintenance as a painter or equivalent training and experience within the trade.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.47 per hour

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
