JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Technology, Concepts and Modeling Department in the Energy Science and Power Systems Division of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a Part-Time Combustion Design Support Engineer to join our team. This position will be part of a design team and will aid in the analysis, design, and development of a metal combustion thermal source as part of a hybrid power system including thermal modeling, design of structural hardware, and evaluation of test results.
ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.
A Ph.D. in Engineering or Science related discipline plus 3 years related experience are required. A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is desired.
Experience in the following areas are preferred:
- Modeling tools for Computational Fluid Dynamics
- Finite Element Analysis
- Chemical kinetics or thermodynamics
- Mechanical design, geometric tolerances, and familiarity with material selection
- Leadership
- Program management.
Experience in combustion theory and its relation to metal powder combustion as well as thermal testing are required. Strong communication skills, including technical writing are a must.
