JOB SUMMARY:
Geneva College invites applications for the Part-Time Lecturer in Logic, in the Department of Biblical Studies and Philosophy. The position begins Spring 2023. The selected candidate will teach one course, Philosophy 100, in the daytime, for the Sprint 2023 Semester only.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for providing quality instruction in Logic/Critical Thinking.
Selected candidates will be expected to:
- Teach assigned contact hours per semester.
- Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons (Note: preparation time will vary based on instructor experience in teaching that course)
- Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved syllabus per faculty established guidelines
- Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting
- Suitably challenge, engage, support, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect
- Complete grade books, final grade sheets, learning assessments and final exam assessments on a timely basis
- Respond to student questions on a timely basis
- Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction in Logic/critical thinking.
- Lead students to understand content of logical arguments, forms of fallacy, and other topics in critical thinking.
- Foster the habit of reasoning in students.
- Administer and grade exams and work sheets/problems solving as assigned.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of a part-time faculty member at Geneva College as specified in the Faculty handbook.
