Itasca, a world-leading software and consulting engineering firm for over 40 years with 190 employees, and nine offices around the world is seeking a software developer. This is a full-time salaried position based in the downtown Minneapolis Itasca Consulting Group Inc (ICG) headquarters.

The successful candidate will have a background in engineering mechanics and have a master’s or Ph.D. in mechanical, civil, petroleum or software engineering or related discipline. Primary responsibilities will include supporting and developing Itasca’s hydraulic fracture simulation software, XSite. Programming experience in an engineering application is required. Primary development will be done in C++. Experience using Itasca software is a plus.

Primary expectations include the ability to:

• design and write object-oriented code used for numerical simulations;
• work collaboratively with the software development team to develop and maintain Itasca’s software;
• communicate with Itasca consultants and external clients to understand user needs and help find and develop effective solutions;
• setup, execute and interpret numerical models to simulate hydraulic fracturing;
• be self-motivated with the ability to think creatively and solve problems independently; and
• be willing and able to take on different responsibilities within a small software team, including testing, technical support, documentation, training and other non-programming tasks.

Minimum requirements:

• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics, applied mechanics, engineering, or related scientific field
• C++ proficiency
• Two (2) years of experience with scientific programming
• Experience in cross-platform development
• Experience with source-control tools
• English proficiency
• U.S.A. work authorization

Other desirable qualifications:

• Qt programming experience
• Background in rock mechanics and fracture mechanics
• Experience with writing and debugging multi-threaded codes
• Experience in large-scale software development cycles, from requirements to release
• Experience with MPI programming
• Experience with UI programming

This is a full-time position. The position is based in Minneapolis and will require much work to be completed on-site but with unparalleled flexibility.
