Job description
This position performs unskilled to semi-skilled assistance with the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of Village properties and facilities. This position reports to the Superintendent of Public Properties or designee.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs various standard tasks using a wide variety of manual and some powered equipment including, but not limited to: ball field prep machines, shovels, rakes, push mowers, riding mowers, string trimmers, wheel barrows, tampers, rototillers, compressors, tractors;
Occasionally operates small trucks and transports up to 3 passengers within the Village limits for no more than 1.5 hours per day in a safe and courteous manner.
Wears seat belt while operating or riding in any vehicle during the work day including to and from breaks and meal times; shall not ride on or work outside the cab of a moving or running vehicle.
Maintains and inspects parks, and other related areas; assists with repairing parks equipment except vehicles and motor-operated tools and equipment.
Assists with the installation of park signs and bike path signs.
Assists in the removal of trash from parks, right of ways, detentions, open spaces, and other Village properties.
Rakes, vacuums, and loads fallen leaves into trucks; performs brush pickup and cleanup duties caused by storm damage; does not operate chain saws.
Performs inspections of Village-owned equipment and reports deficiencies in equipment to supervisor for maintenance.
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use; shall not clean or check equipment with moving parts unless equipment is properly tagged and locked out.
Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed and adheres to all departmental and Village safety policies.
Performs landscaping tasks as needed.
Moves furniture, mows Village property, conducts weed control, cleans facilities, paints public facilities, and other related tasks; does not use spray paint or lead-based paint.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Must be at least 18 years of age and posses a valid Illinois driver's license without a record of any moving violation.

Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedules.
Physical Requirements
Ability to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to stand and ambulate over rugged terrain.
Must have sufficient visual ability to operate equipment and light duty trucks during daylight hours to observe unsafe roadways, to read and write reports and correspondence. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include climbing stairs, walking, crouching, crawling, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment and lifting heavy objects.
Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, and textures associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.
Environmental Adaptability
Ability to work in outside weather conditions with exposure to cold, heat, wet and/or humid conditions.
Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and vibration.
