Corteva Agriscience
is currently seeking a Research Associate (RA) to provide day-to-day support for a variety of activities at the Champaign, IL Research Center. You will play a key role in supporting all projects at the research center through activities including experiment planning, seed handling, data collection and analysis, and field operations including planting, pollinating and harvest.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Conduct field research experiments according to specific protocols, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.

  • Assist with research center projects and research seed production activities, with an emphasis in regulatory, traits and efficacy studies, and including seed preparation for planting, support for summer pollinating activities, and combine/hand harvest.

  • There are critical times for the success of the research program, so weekend work and overtime will be required at these times.

  • Collaborate with station staff to collect timely data and summarize results of experiments, note problem areas during data collection, and recommend actions to be taken where needed.

  • Computer skills and the use of Corteva proprietary software for completing these tasks will be a significant component.

  • Looking for an individual to lead some of the new technology used in seed handling.

  • Manage temporary and seasonal employees to complete seed handling, plot maintenance and data collection according to protocols and to meet deadlines.

  • Operation of agricultural research equipment may be required. This includes tractors, planters, sprayers, forklift, and research combines.

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment. Responsible for assigned safety standard implementation.

  • Provide support for other research projects at the Champaign research center as assigned.

Qualifications


Qualifications - What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture/science field with 1-2 years related experience; or Associates degree in agriculture/science field with 3-5 years related experience.

  • Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs, along with handheld PC experience, and capacity to learn new software. Develop expertise in proprietary software, be the local knowledge expert.

  • Ability to maintain and operate agricultural research machinery.

  • Supervisory and leadership skills to effectively coordinate complex research center operations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivation and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions and problem solving.

  • Ability to work independently while setting high expectations.

  • Positive attitude and team player.

  • Ability to obtain a pesticide applicators license and/or drone pilot license as needed.

  • Basic knowledge of agronomy, crop production, plant development, and experimental field plot design.

  • Ability to gain competencies with various research field and data collection equipment as well as necessary computer and data collection hardware and software.

  • Will be required to do physical lifting and work outdoors and in varying ergonomic environments.

  • Additional hours and weekends during seasonal peak periods, including occasional overnight stays.
