Job Description
This position will help drive the creation of new solutions in the areas of Network Performance Monitoring & Reporting (FCC – CAF2 & Transparency), and Capacity Planning at Frontier Communications. The primary responsibility for this position will be to serve as a lead Solutions/Systems engineer in designing and creating new applications and tools to enhance the NPM capabilities in the new areas of regulatory broadband data reporting to FCC, Metro Ethernet, Transport, VoIP, and Video networks analytics. Candidate is expected to have in-depth knowledge in the telecom/communication networking areas including layer 2 and layer 3 devices used in carrier networks – switches, routers, data protocols, telecom standards – MEF, regulatory FCC and so on. The candidate should also possess experience in designing and implementing Data warehouse, ETL, and Business Intelligence tools for large corporation preferably in a telecom carrier. Must have in-depth knowledge of product development life-cycle and experience with creating custom processes suitable for the team. Experience working with Agile teams (SCRUM, Kanban) is a big plus. Database and web based application development using Java, JavaScript, PHP, Python, MySQL and Oracle. Additional skills in Visual Basic, ASP, C, and C #, C++, Apache or IIS web server administration welcome.
The person will be required to collaborate with several teams including vendors, regional engineers and planning groups to understand business requirements and provide fitting solutions resolving business needs in Network Performance Monitoring, Capacity Management and Capacity planning. Must be well organized, self-motivated and have strong communication skills. The person will be expected to develop documentation, propose action items and present ideas to supervisor and other teams given high level direction. Lead and organize meetings with clear agenda items.
The ideal candidate would also have Telecommunications network background, minimum 5 years of experience and technical degree. Strong analytics and development skills.
Responsibilities
- Majority of the time is expected to be spent on leading solution/system architecture and design activities towards development of new NPM applications in the areas of metro Ethernet, Packet Optical Transport Network and supporting the needs of the capacity management team
- Design and implement new tools and processes and promote them among the other teams within Frontier Communications.
- Provide technical leadership guidance to other members of the NPM group.
- Supports Capacity management, Network Operations, Engineering and other groups as needed. Supports regional teams in process enhancement, systems troubles and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- This position requires knowledge of statistics, business principles, telecommunications, and database principles. It also requires organizational skills, ability to multi-task, verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence systems and tools ETL, API, Developing new interface, Enterprise bus.
- Will design and develop commons tools to retrieve, analyze, and normalize complex data sets, such as network performance data
- Build APIs and common interfaces that permits easy access to these data sets.
- Take active role in systems, data integration, and database administration.
- Design and develop tools and standard methodologies needed for capacity planning SLA/QoS needing services –metro Ethernet, MPLS, VoIP, video/IPTV.
- Develop processes and methodologies to capture infrastructure performance data such as Carrier Ethernet, Aggregation and Packet Optical Transport Networks, FTTCS/FTTx networks.
- Parts of the tools and work would include – Data warehouse, Business Intelligence, ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) type of development activities.
- Developing dashboards for senior management with Network Performance data and project information
- Thorough understanding of various aspect of product development lifecycle. Experience with working on Agile (SCRUM, KANBAN) teams.
- Knowledge of data and/or voice networks, network equipment and analysis tools required. Knowledge in the analysis of traffic data generated in both access and aggregation networks.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in coding. (Perl, UNIX shell, Expect/TCL, Python, SQL)
- Knowledge of database scripting and knowledgeable in coding. (MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL and/or MS Access, SQL server . . . others)
- Ability to work independently and in teams, prioritizing multiple projects, issues and tasks with minimal direction.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by leveraging on-line technical resources, attending conferences, establishing personal and professional relationships, attending formal training classes, and pursuing certifications and self-training where appropriate.
- Some travel may be required.
