Summary: Under general supervision of Campus Services coordinator, performs a variety of duties in Transportation Department for the university. The position has no direct reports.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide general shuttle bus services driving a set route and maintaining schedule
- Coordinate fueling of vehicles and maintain fueling records
- Maintain university vehicles for safety, mechanical operation, and cleanliness. Notify supervisor of any issues.
- Coordinate through supervisor vehicle usage for athletic events, administration, department activities, and general student organization activities. Communicate with Public Safety for vehicle check in and check out.
- Track vehicle keys.
- Provide vehicle services for university guests
- Provide vehicle services for university programs
- Maintain vehicle usage records
- Maintain valid license and excellent driving record
- Maintain communication with supervisor via University provided cell phone. Inform supervisor of any disruptions to duties including pick up schedule problems.
Other Required Job Functions
Schedule:
- Work additional time as scheduled to support University needs
Customer service:
- Provide professional, prompt and courteous service.
- Shuttle vehicles for maintenance to garages or other service providers
Events support duties:
- Will be part of the campus events team. Some duties my include driving students, faculty, staff and/or visitors.
Athletics:
- On occasion required to support driving for athletics teams. Some duties may be out of town on weekends.
Qualifications:
- Valid driving license; Minimum Class E or higher
- Successful pre-employment drug test
- No moving violations on record for last 3 years.
- One year experience as driver or messenger.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of State Vehicle Operators manual.
Physical Requirements, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Safety practices and procedures related to vehicles and Transportation.
- Basic vehicle mechanical knowledge.
- Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner.
Skill and Ability to:
- Ability to maintain a professional, customer service-oriented demeanor at all times; ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Working Environment:
- Subject to being on call.
- Schedule changes based on the needs of the University and long hours to complete/perform scheduled or emergency functions/projects.
- Regular work hours are a 5 hour shift scheduled between the hours of 7 AM and 10PM Mon-Sat. Maximum 30 hours per week.
- Available weekends and holidays as needed.
- Appreciable physical strain, including lifting, bending, stretching, standing, walking in outdoor and indoor terrains, including up/down stairs.
- May be required to use safety equipment such as gloves and back belt. Must be capable of consistently stepping up an 18” step into and out of vehicles, and have the ability to assist passengers in and out of vehicles.
