Job description
Summary
The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for performing general repair and preventive maintenance work on the semi-trailer fleet. This position will troubleshoot and repair equipment, utilizing electrical, welding, carpentry, and general mechanical skills as necessary. The Trailer Mechanic will fabricate parts using machines, tools and other items, and prioritize project completion to reflect the department needs. This position works Monday-Friday dayshift hours!
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- General repair and maintenance of trailer mechanical and electrical systems, brakes, lift-gate,lighting systems, body skin, roof, doors, and floors
- Utilize diagnostic tests to troubleshoot equipment failures
- Safely operate all required equipment and utilize safety devices
- Operate a forklift
- Safely and efficiently use various hand and power tools
- Hook & unhook tractor-trailer combinations and maneuver in yard
- Safely and efficiently use an AC/DC welder and oxygen/acetylene cutting tools
- Fabricate parts using machines, tools and other items from sheet metal and steel
- Perform the DOT required periodic vehicle and brake inspections of trailers
- Perform service calls for trailers at retailer sites and in-transit
- Adhere to all OSHA Safety Standards and OBRC policies
- Complete work orders and other assigned paperwork as directed
- Other tasks as directed
Education/Experience
- Experience in industrial mechanics, welding, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to repair wiring and automotive electrical components.
- DOT qualified vehicle brake inspector
Requirements – Skills, Job Knowledge & Abilities
- A current driver's license and acceptable driving history is required
- Ability to complete forklift training class
- Ability to operate various hand and power tools
- Experience with AC/DC welder and oxygen/acetylene cutting tools
- Safely climb on top of, around and under equipment as needed
- Climb and work from ladders up to trailer roof height
- Lift 50 lbs. to 4 ft high as necessary

Travel
- All travel will be within the State of Oregon using a company supplied service vechicle.
