VISTA Summer Associates Food Security Programs will increase summer healthy food access to community members living with food insecurity and poverty. The following activities will vary depending on selection and placement. 1) Summer Food Service Programs are located at Feeding Laramie Valley (Kids Out to Lunch, Laramie, WY, 06/05/2023 - 08/16/2023); Sheridan County School District #1 (Ranchester, WY, 06/05/2023 - 08/16/2023); Powell Valley Healthcare, Powell, WY 5/30/2023 - 08/06/2023; USDA-Funded summer food program providing meals to all children ages 0 through 18. Enrichment activities will also be provided at some sites. Summer Food Program activities include marketing, menu planning, activities planning, food preparation, serving, and clean-up. 2) Summer Food Production and Distribution Programs (Feeding Laramie Valley 6/05-08/16);Wind River Food Sovereignty Project; and Wind River Nations Growing Gardens and Food Justice. Production will be increased through local gardening, community gardening, harvesting, and distribution to adults and families with food insecurity, Program activities include: preparing garden plots, planting, mentoring, harvesting, sharing food. Farmers Market expansion is on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
