Job description
Sponsored Projects Administration is dedicated to providing excellent service to the contract and grant community. Sponsored Projects staff act as UCI's institutional officials in the review and submission of proposals to extramural sponsors for research, training and public service projects. Other institutional responsibilities include: negotiating and accepting awards on behalf of The Regents; drafting, negotiating and executing subcontracts; ensuring institutional compliance with Federal and State regulations, sponsor policy and University policy; representing the campus and The Regents when interacting with sponsors; coordinating pre- award and post-award actions that require either institutional or sponsor prior approval; and resolving problems related to sponsored projects.
Uses advanced contract administration skills to draft and issue highly complex or customized contracts. Provides consultation, advice on drafting complex contracts and assistance in the interpretation of contract language, which may include consultation with General Counsel, and guidance from University policies and procedures. Negotiates and manages a high volume of clinical trial agreements, contract amendments, and/or confidentiality agreements. Negotiates contracts in compliance with federal and state law and University policy related to clinical trial contracting, as well as administers and manages the contract during its life cycle. Monitors contracts to ensure continued compliance as federal law, state law, and University policy changes. Provides information and training to campus in the preparation, negotiation and administration/management of clinical trial contracts. NOTE: This is primarily a remote position. Infrequently, this position may need, or be required, to work on campus

Required:
5-7 years of related contract experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in an academic or research environment
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Advanced listening, political acumen skills and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills. Advanced organizational and presentation skills. Advanced negotiation skills sufficient to effectively negotiate terms and conditions of grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts. Advanced knowledge of programs and polices of state, federal, and local governments required to prepare and negotiate clinical trial agreements and contracts. Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; advanced ability to deal with broad and diverse constituencies using advanced customer service orientation and skills. Ability to manage significant volume of contracts.
Preferred:
Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure, goals, mission, rules, policies, guidelines, etc. Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc. Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
